It’s already August 23! It means we only have 8 more days before the Ber months begin!
What in the world is a Ber month? Oh, that’s simple. September until december are the -ber months in the Philippines, this means Christmas is coming.
The Philippines must be the only country that starts the holiday season once September kicks in.
By this time, people in the Philippines will usually begin their Christmas shopping. I don’t know about you but personally I absolutely hate doing my Christmas shopping the week before Christmas when you cannot park at the shopping mall and you have massive queues at the stores.
However, there are arguments about which buying period is best and even sellers cannot really be sure (some shops offer Christmas products early while others wait until the season is well under way). But for me, I still prefer early Christmas shopping. Why?
- Early shopping for Christmas allows you to go at a more relaxed pace
- You will avoid having to make all your Christmas expenditure at one time which helps you avoid falling into debt or ruining your credit payments.
- Doing early shopping will also free much of your time during the holidays and in effect, you will be able to participate in other activities during the Christmas season.
- Most Christmas products are cheaper. I remember last year I got a great deal with Nativity crib figures in one of the bazaars. I got them 50% off =) Not bad, right?
Anyway, if you are going to take this approach to early Christmas shopping, then you will have to carry your gift list with you all the time, perhaps in your wallet. After all you always have your wallet with you when you are shopping. You also need to ensure that you keep the list updated, and cross people’s names off when you have bought their gift. That way you won’t double up and buy another gift for someone because you forgot you’d already done it.
