Few weeks back, I was invited to an intimate get-together with my fellow mommy blogger/friends at Kitchen’s Best Home Patisserie in BGC hosted by the brand, Lotte Xylitol. It was a lovely afternoon to know and personally interact with other mommies whom I only know online.
The event started with a “getting to know you” activity where all of us picked and answered one question made by Ms. Ginger of MommyGinger.com, one of the bloggers and mompreneurs whom I admire.
Unlike other events where the brand only presents its products, we were given the chance to introduce ourselves, share a bit of what we do, our interests, a glimpse of our family and blogs and answer the specific question assigned to us. I was asked this question, “Who is your hero?”. I instantly answered with a smile that my mom and dad are my heroes, though I was really nervous that time. Without them, I will be nothing. Whatever I have, whoever I am today, I owe it to them. They made family life easy, convenient and happy for me and my siblings.
Sumptuous chicken sandwich with fries, cake and banana shake were served.
Let me share with you the discussion made by Dr. Fina Lopez, a pediatric dentist from the Philippine Dental Association. I was actually fascinated with what she shared and I felt bad knowing that I’ve been taking care of my teeth the wrong way for the longest time.

What you should know about kid’s dental health
1. Tooth decay is a bacterial disease therefore, it is transmissible and can cause other diseases like rheumatic heart disease, etc.
2. Tooth decay is transmitted when you blow your kid’s hot food through saliva. To those who let their yayas feed their child, think twice.
3. Kissing kids on the lips transfers bacteria.
4. Oral hygiene starts on the kids when the first two teeth erupt.
5. White spots on kid’s teeth signify start of tooth decay but this is reversible through brushing with fluoride every night, stop bottle feeding and change the kid’s diet.
6. When your kids ask for iced tea or soda try your best not to give in since these are both sugary and acidic. Encourage them to drink water instead.
7. Between biscuits and chocolates, though these two are both sweet, Dr. Fina said that it’s better to give kids chocolates since these melt and can be easily washed away unlike biscuits that crumble and go to the holes of the teeth when kids eat. Biscuits may not be easily brushed away and may lead to tooth decay.
Effects of tooth decay on children
As early as possible, teach your kids proper ways on how to brush their teeth and supervise them while brushing.
Always remember these key points:
- Use fluoridated toothpaste twice daily.
- Use the right amount of toothpaste for children.
- Change your toothbrush every 3 months.
- Brush day and night for 2 minutes.
- No water rinsing after brushing, just spit out the bubbles. This may sound odd but the flouride will be washed away if you rinse with water. My daughter has been doing this for almost one month and I’m thankful that I’ve learned about this as early as now.
A New Way To Prevent Tooth Decay
Lotte Xylitol is the first dental health gum in the Philippines that used Xylitol as an ingredient. This is the only dental health gum recognized by the Philippine Dental Association. It effectively helps prevent tooth decay and it is sugar free. The gum encourages saliva flow that helps maintain the right pH level in the mouth. It creates acid that stops dissolving of the tooth enamel which is the cause of tooth decay.
Aside from keeping your breath fresh, this also helps in removing the food particles that are stuck in between your teeth. Lotte Xylitol can also aid in making teeth healthier with regular intake of 2 pellets, 4-5 times a day.
Available flavors in leading supermarkets nationwide:
– Lime Mint (Green)
– Blueberry Mint (Violet)
– Fresh Mint (Blue)
– Strawberry Mini (Pink)

This is so informative, I gasped at number 2! I have to make sure no one blows on Ethan’s food before serving!
Looks like a great product!
Wow. This is a really great product for moms-on-the-go. At least there’s an easier way to get your mouth clean and fresh if you don’t have the time to brush your teeth.
Absolutely! We take care of their teeth by visiting the Dentist every 6 mos, or if need be. I patronize Xylitol because of their advocacy to prevent tooth decay in Children.
Wow I never knew that we weren’t supposed to rinse after brushing. I guess the it was a good thing that both my kids haven’t been rinsing their mouths haha. Thanks for sharing what you learned! 🙂
Same here. I’m not used to it until now.
My stepson loves Xylitol. And yes, he got perfect pearly whites!
Very informative. I seem to think chocolates are the worse of the 2, compared to biscuits. Wrong pala. Nice to know. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thanks for this article! Helpful tips on how we can take care of our 3-yr old son’s teeth. I think we need to visit a dentist soon! Thanks again!
My children like this product very much and I kind of encourage it anyway because of its promised benefit.
Oh wow so very useful tips for my 2 year old son!
