The Lisa Macuja School of Ballet Manila, the leading classical dance company in the Philippines, marks another milestone as they opened their newest branch located in Fisher Mall, Quezon City.
My daughter has been asking me lately to enroll her in a ballet class. And just in time, I received an invite from Ballet Manila for a free ballet class for Keisha to be instructed by none other than Prima Ballerina Lisa Macuja. Well, I guess the stars aligned for her and in a snap her wish was granted. To top it all, the country’s pride Ms. Lisa Macuja-Elizalde was her first ballet teacher.
She was ecstatic when she found out that her first ballet teacher is the best ballerina in our country. We were both excited to see her in person. As a matter of fact, Keisha has been practicing in front of the mirror and watching videos of Lisa Macuja performing a week prior to the ballet class.
I believe that every woman, at one point in their life aspire to be a ballerina.
Did you know that Ballet Manila is the only ballet school in our country that has a direct link with Russian Ballet Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia? The Russian school produced many famous ballet dancers, teachers and choreographers in the world. The Ballet Manila follows the Russian Vaganova method to provide the highest standard of classical ballet education for their students.
At the beginning of the class, participants were taught how the proper stretching, and basics in ballet like the proper position of hands and feet. Teacher Lisa Macuja was very sweet and engaging to the kids.
The ambience of the dance studio is great. It’s spacious, bright, with good ventilation and the location is convenient. No doubt that this is one of the best dance studios I’ve ever seen to date.
The school’s faculty is made up of accomplished Vaganova style-trained classical dancers who are highly considered as some of the best in the country, including Jonathan Janolo, Sofia Sangco-Peralta, Gerardo Francisco, Eileen Lopez, Czarina Villegas, and of course, Lisa Macuja-Elizalde and Osias Barroso, who is the school’s Co-Director.
Here are the following courses offered:
Creative Movement for Toddlers (for ages 2-3)
Baby Ballerinas (for ages 3-5)
Twinkle Toes (for ages 5-6)
Level 1B-Beginner and Level 1A-Advanced (for ages 6-9)
Level 2B-Beginner and Level 2B-Advanced (for 10-12 years old)
Level 3B-Intermediate (for boys and girls aged 12-16 with previous ballet training and intermediate pointe work)
Level 3-A Advanced (for 14 years old and above)
To those adults with zero background in ballet, you may also enroll as they have ballet classes for fitness’s sake or for those who had ballet training in the past and wish to take it up again.
Enrolling our kid/s in this kind of activity will improve their mind and body coordination. Also, this promotes self-discipline and respect. But most importantly, this will enhance their socialization skills and confidence which I think are very important to develop at a young age.
Thank you Ms. Lisa Macuja, Ballet Manila, and ARC PR for making this little girl’s dream come true! She considers this experience as an advanced 7th birthday gift. We’ll definitely be back for her next session.
