Rainy Day Activities For Kids

With the kind of erratic weather that we experience these days, it’s a must for us moms to have options on how to execute our daily plans. While our week is packed with unending to-do lists and since our 24/7 is mostly consumed by mommy duties (taking care of the kids, feeding them nutritious meals, keeping them entertained), we normally rely on our free time (when the kids are at school) to complete all unfinished task.

With the few hours they are in school, we then have our own spare time to recharge and think of new ideas on how to entertain them, especially on gloomy and rainy days when the sun isn’t up and playing outside is not possible.

When classes are suspended due to thunderstorms or heavy rainfalls, kids tend to get bored because they know they’re locked up inside the four corners of their homes. And of course we don’t want that. If anything, we want our kids to continue making the most of their childhood regardless of the weather. Even when it’s raining hard outside, the fun doesn’t have to stop for our kids as they can still enjoy and explore new things at the comfort of their own homes.

Here’s a round-up of 5 rainy day activities that kids can do at home to keep them entertained:

  1. Art Attack
rainy-day-activities-for-kidsDevelop your kid’s creativity and imagination, let him unleash his artsy potential by doing some art activities at home like painting, coloring, sketching, and drawing. Give him a topic and let him draw to visualize his interpretation of the said topic. You can also let him draw/color/sketch/paint freely.Compile his artwork so you can both track his progress.2. Cook Pancakes
rainy-day-activities-for-kids-1The concept of cooking gives kids a grown-up feeling. They are mostly delighted to perform adult roles. For your quality bonding time, teach them how to cook pancakes. Let them prepare the ingredients first and educate them on the basics of cooking. Though, I don’t really suggest a hands-on cooking for them to experience most especially when they are still young for safety purposes. I highly recommend moms to do the cooking part, then let the kids design and garnish the pancake. Make sure you have maple or chocolate syrup, mini marshmallows, sliced banana, and chocolate sprinkles to add more fun. This is truly one for the books that your kids will love.

    3. Play board games and building blocks
rainy-day-activities-for-kids-2Board games and building blocks were a hit during my childhood years and were still up to now. Let them discover the joy that board games bring by playing Snakes & Ladders, Millionaire’s Game, Monopoly, and Chess. They may also play Uno Stacko, Jenga, Word Factory and Scrabble with their friends. I’m quite sure that they will not only enjoy but their brain activity will be exercised as well.

    4. Play dress-up
rainy-day-activities-for-kids-4When you have a little girl, let her play dress-up at home. Give her the freedom to mix and match her clothes. You may opt to let her rummage your closet as well for more diverse selection. Afterwards, ask her to walk like a queen in her make-believe fashion show. Little boys can join in this activity as well and wear daddy’s neck tie for a more polished look.

    5. Reading is fun
keisha-reading-a-book-14-2016Let your kids discover the joy in learning new things through reading. It’s best if you’ll read together or with her playmate so they can share ideas on what the story is about. They can also opt to imagine what will happen next on the story as well as to the characters.

So even though it’s raining outside, the fun doesn’t really have to stop as they can still do a lot of things indoors, whether by themselves or with their playmates. And to keep my daughter energetic and healthy at all times, especially when rainy season-related diseases like coughs and cold become rampant, I make sure that she’s protected from within by giving her a glass of NIDO 5+ everyday.

Knowing that my Keisha is laking NIDO, protektado gives me peace of mind. Thanks to NIDO 5+, I am confident that she has my loving protection even when I’m not around.

nido-keishaIn one of my previous posts, I talked about the importance of checking the label. And by checking the label, you will see that only NIDO has LACTOBACILLUS PROTECTUS, a unique probiotic (millions and millions of live good bacteria) that helps maintain stomach balance which then strengthens the immune system of children. Clinical studies have proven that it is effective in maintaining a healthy digestive system, making children less prone to diarrhea and modulating their immune system so they don’t get sick easily. It also contains high levels of DHA plus ALA, LA, Folic Acid and Taurine which together works to ensure our little ones proper brain structure development.

keisha-nido-1Specific to NIDO 5+, it is enriched with CALCI-N® to help build healthy bones by providing better calcium absorption for kids ages 5 and up.

So, don’t let the rainy season hamper your children’s chance to play, learn, and explore. Beat boredom at home by trying the 5 suggested activities that I have listed above and make sure your kids are protected from within at all times by giving them NIDO 5+. When it comes to your child’s nutrition don’t forget to always check the label and compare to ensure that they are well-protected from within.

How about you mommies, what are the activities that you practice in your respective homes to keep your kids and their playmates entertained on rainy days? Share your list on the comments section below.

  1. My son doesn’t like staying indoor so he usually becomes grumpy when it rains. Hahaha. There are great ideas to do with kids. I love dressing up but I can’t do it with my son. Lol

  2. We’ve recently discovered how fun it is to let the kids play in the kitchen. Thank goodness for ready-to-bake premixes, konting effort nalang! Thanks for suggesting to play dress-up, para hindi naman sayang ang costumes and dresses!

  3. Whenever the kids get restless stuck in the house when it’s raining, our art supplies save the day for us as well. They’ll be busy na for the rest of the afternoon just doodling and coloring. I get some quite time plus they learn to be creative pa 🙂

  4. Your tip no. 3 gave me the throwback Thursday feels! Board games are so fun especially when you have your siblings, cousins or friends play it with you, diba? Nakakatuwa naman na may mga bata pa rin na naglalaro ng board games in this age of smartphones and tablets.

  5. I do most of these activities with my son too except for playing dress up. He’s not really into that unless we’re pretending to be super heroes. 🙂

  6. Rain or shine, we often do the same activities. And since I am always with ta baby boy , i dress him up and take photos of him. It indeed helped building his character, he loves posing for photos. Hihi.

Your little darling is a beauty.

  7. I think even when it’s not raining you can also do these activities with your kids. My daughter is now 15 yrs old, I miss the “dressing-up” activity with her- hahaha. Her closet staple now are: jeans, hoodie, sweatshirts …

  8. We usually play wrestling when its raining outside. Yeah thats what you get when you have two boys! He He He He Of course milk is very important to keep their bones strong and help them to be more active.

  9. Pretty Keisha! <3

I love rainy days as it keeps us together at home! I love when we're doing educational activities or just simply sit and watch movies.

  10. I’ve got boys and they also do all those things you mentioned. They’ve gotten used to it since we started imposing the no-gadgets day.

I was raised a Nido kid, unfortunately, my kids don’t like how it tastes. I don’t know why. 🙁
