4 Ways to Make a Difference In Your Community

While there’s nothing wrong with kicking a few dollars to your favorite charity, it isn’t a very hands-on way to make a difference in the world, and many people recognize that. They’d much rather get involved in physical or emotional ways that have a tangible impact on their favorite causes.

If you’re like this, the good news is that there are plenty of ways that you can start giving back to your community. You’ll just have to decide which way is right for you. Here are a few ideas to get the ball rolling!

1. Identify Your Cause

Different people care about different things. For example, you might be a voracious reader who really wants to improve literacy rates in children, but your neighbor might care less about people and more about stray animals being euthanized in the city’s kill shelters. No cause is better or more important than the other. You just have to find one that speaks to you on a personal level.

2. Start Tweeting

Social media has made a profound impact on how charities raise money and spread awareness. You can do your good deed of the day by promoting them on your own Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram or Facebook account. Are they hosting a 5K run that needs more volunteers? Retweet it! Are they raising money to afford a new inter-city project? Like or favorite it! Your engagement is one of the best gifts that you can offer, and it won’t cost you a dime.

3. Play Some Music

There are many charities that involve music in some way. Whether it’s providing scholarships for underprivileged musicians or bringing open-air concerts to local parks, they’re all about celebrating song and dance. Contact one of these organizations to learn how you can host a performance or donate piano NYC, too.

4. Feed the Hungry

Volunteering at a soup kitchen is one of the most traditional ways to get involved with your community, but it’s cliche for a reason. It’s both a challenging and rewarding experience, and you’ll be making a real difference to everyone who receives a plate. Go online and find nearby soup kitchens that could use a helping hand.

These are just a few ways to give back to the people of your neighborhood. Don’t feel limited by these suggestions, however. The world is full of good, generous ideas just waiting to take flight, and if you have one, use it!
